Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is a well-respected public university in Hong Kong with a unique blend of heritage and innovation.

HKBU's story starts in 1951 when the Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary opens as a training ground for pastors. Five years later, in 1956, Hong Kong Baptist College (HKBC) is established with just 152 students, thanks to the support of American Baptists. Classes initially take place at the Pui Ching Middle School in Kowloon. In 1957, the government allocates land on Waterloo Road for HKBC's permanent campus, marking a significant step towards growth and independence.

The 1970s witness HKBC's academic offerings diversify, with new departments focusing on humanities, social sciences, and business studies established. 1978 marks another milestone as the Department of History gains autonomy, becoming an independent teaching unit within HKBC. By 1983, HKBC's contributions to higher education are recognized, and it's officially granted public college status.

A pivotal moment arrives in 1994 when HKBC's achievements culminate in the granting of university status. It's officially renamed Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). HKBU continues to flourish in the following decades, expanding its academic programs, research endeavors, and international collaborations.

Based on the QS World University Rankings of 2024, Hong Kong Baptist University is positioned as the #295 top university in the world, which makes it the #6 top university in Hong Kong.
