Episcopal University of Haiti

The Episcopal University of Haiti (UNEPH) is a private university located in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The Episcopal University of Haiti, originally known as the Université Jacques Theodore Holly, was founded in 1920 by the Episcopal Church of Haiti. It began operating at Collège Saint-Pierre in Port-au-Prince, named after Haitian Bishop and abolitionist James Theodore Holly. The university's initial focus was on providing theological education for future priests and ministers.

In 1942, UNEPH opened its doors to lay students and began offering secular degree programs in the arts, sciences, and humanities. The university continued to grow throughout the 20th century, adding new faculties and programs in fields such as law, business, and education.

UNEPH has faced numerous challenges throughout its history, including political instability, natural disasters, and economic hardship. The 2010 earthquake in Haiti caused significant damage to the university's campus, but UNEPH quickly rebuilt and resumed operations.
