Georgian Technical University

Georgian Technical University is the main and largest technical university of Georgia.

The seeds of GTU were sown in 1917 when the Polytechnic Faculty was established within Tbilisi State University. Renowned Georgian mathematician Professor Andria Razmadze delivered the first lecture, marking the institution's momentous foray into the world of technical education.

A decade later, in 1928, the faculty blossomed into an independent entity – the Georgian Polytechnic Institute (GPI). This newfound autonomy paved the way for rapid growth, with new departments and specializations emerging to cater to the burgeoning demand for skilled engineers. GPI's impact transcended borders, becoming the premier center for engineering education in the entire South Caucasus region.

The dawn of the 1990s ushered in a new era for GPI. Recognizing its pivotal role in shaping the nation's future, the institute was officially granted university status, proudly taking on the mantle of the Georgian Technical University (GTU). This prestigious title reflected GTU's commitment to academic excellence and its dedication to nurturing the next generation of engineering leaders.
