Wollo University

Wollo University is a public university located in Dessie, Ethiopia.

The history of Wollo University can be traced back to the early 2000s, when the Ethiopian government began planning to establish a new public university in the Amhara region. The goal of the new university was to provide quality education and training to the people of the region, and to support the region's economic and social development.

In 2005, the Ethiopian government established the Komobolcha Institute of Technology (KIT) as a precursor to the new university. KIT was located in the town of Kombolcha, about 30 kilometers from Dessie, the capital of the Amhara region. KIT offered undergraduate programs in engineering and technology.

In 2011, the Ethiopian government officially established Wollo University by merging KIT with the Dessie Teachers Training College and the Dessie College of Health Sciences. The new university had its main campus in Dessie, with two other campuses in Kombolcha and Sekota.

In its early years, Wollo University focused on offering undergraduate programs in a limited number of disciplines. However, the university has rapidly expanded its academic offerings in recent years.
