Haramaya University

Haramaya University is a public research university in Haramaya, Oromia Region, Ethiopia. It is approximately 510 kilometres (320 mi) east of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Haramaya University was established in 1954 as the Imperial Ethiopian College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts (IECAMA). It was founded with the assistance of Oklahoma State University, and its initial focus was on agricultural education and research. In 1985, IECAMA was upgraded to the status of a full-fledged university and renamed Alemaya University of Agriculture. During this time, the university expanded its academic offerings to include other fields, such as engineering, education, and social sciences. In 1996, Alemaya University of Agriculture was renamed Haramaya University. This change reflected the university's commitment to serving the entire Oromia Region, not just the Alemaya district.
