Its foundation was laid in May 2005, smiling with the inception of the earth of construction in 2006. The official instruction commenced in January 2007 with a total of 725 students enrolled initially in the Faculty of Education, the beginning of its quest to deliver quality education. In fact, thenceforth-this milestone pierced through the timescape of the center's very life-that transformed Debre Berhan, rather, to emerge as the very center of blossoming thought and intellectual growth. The establishment of the university was part of a grand scheme by the Ethiopian government to widen access to higher education and provide a relative equity of chances across the nation. Strategically situated, it was to serve the educational demand of the Amhara region and its neighboring areas. The institution rose rapidly with the obtainment of new faculties and programs such as Business and Economics, Health Sciences, Agriculture, and Technology.
