Arba Minch University is a residential national university in Arba Minch, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region, Ethiopia.
The history of Arba Minch University (AMU) can be traced back to the establishment of the Arba Minch Water Technology Institute (AWTI) in September 1986. AWTI was established to train water resources professionals for Ethiopia. In 1993, AWTI was transferred from the Water Resource Commission to the Ministry of Education. In 1999, AWTI was expanded to include other disciplines, such as engineering, science, social sciences, and humanities. The expanded institute was renamed Arba Minch Institute of Technology (AIT). AIT was granted university status in 2004, and was renamed Arba Minch University.
HU is also a major contributor to the economic and social development of the Sidama Region. The university provides jobs to thousands of people and its graduates are in high demand by employers in the region. HU also plays a leading role in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in the region. In addition to its academic and research activities, HU is also actively involved in community service. The university has a number of programs that provide essential services to the community, such as healthcare, education, and agricultural extension services.
