University of Technology of El Salvador

UTEC is a private university located in San Salvador, El Salvador.

In 1979, amidst the shadows of El Salvador's civil war, a group of visionaries planted the seeds of what would become the University of Technology of El Salvador (UTEC). They aimed to fill a crucial gap: a practical, technology-focused university. Under the official banner of the Technological Institute of Commerce and Business Administration (ITCAE), the first roots took hold.

Formal recognition arrived in 1980, but the fledgling university faced an uphill battle. The University of El Salvador lay closed and occupied, a stark reminder of the turbulence. Yet, UTEC persevered, operating from a single building and offering degrees in business and accounting. Its focus on practical knowledge resonated with students and businesses alike, forging a path amidst the uncertainty.

The mid-80s brought growth. A dedicated campus sprung up, engineering programs joined the ranks, and UTEC's commitment to El Salvador's technological needs became clear. As the 90s dawned, post-war stability allowed UTEC to flourish. New buildings rose, radio waves hummed with Radio UTEC's broadcasts, and history and anthropology joined the curriculum.
