University of the Andes (Universidad de los Andes, also commonly self-styled as Uniandes) is a private research university located in the city centre of Bogotá, Colombia.
The University of the Andes (Uniandes) was founded in 1948 by a group of Colombian intellectuals led by Mario Laserna Pinzón. It was the first Colombian university established as nonsectarian (independent from any political party or religious institution). Laserna and the other founders envisioned Uniandes as a center for academic excellence, research, and social responsibility.
Uniandes quickly began to make a name for itself as one of the leading universities in Colombia. In 1964, the Colombian government granted it University status.
