The roots of this esteemed university stretch back to 1980, when it emerged as the Hangzhou Industrial School Attached to Zhejiang University. This marked the beginning of a transformative journey that would shape its present identity. Just three years later, it gained independence and became the Hangzhou Industrial School. This period laid the groundwork for the institution's focus on technical education. In 1984, it ascended to the status of Hangzhou Higher Technical College Attached to Zhejiang University. Three years later, it shed its affiliation with Zhejiang University and became the independent Hangzhou Higher Technical College. The year 1992 witnessed another significant transformation as the college evolved into the Hangzhou Institute of Applied Engineering Technology.
