Zhejiang Ocean University

Zhejiang Ocean University is a public university located in Zhoushan city, Zhejiang province, China.

This university's history began with the merging of two institutions in 1988.  One was a specialized institution, Zhejiang Fishery University, founded in 1958.  This earlier university focused on preparing students for careers in fisheries and related marine fields.  The other institution, Zhoushan Junior Teachers College, established ten years later in 1978, provided teacher training.  By combining these strengths, the newly formed university gained a broader academic foundation while retaining its expertise in marine science.

Prior to the merger, Zhejiang Fishery University had already achieved recognition for offering bachelor's degrees by 1982.  This milestone positioned it as a key player in educating future generations of marine professionals in China.  Following the merger, the focus continued to expand.  The university gained the authority to award postgraduate degrees in 2005, solidifying its role not just in undergraduate education but also in advanced research endeavors.
