Taiyuan Normal University

Taiyuan Normal University is a university in Shanxi, China, under the authority of the provincial government.

This university's history stretches back over a century, weaving together the legacies of several institutions. Its roots lie in the Shanxi Provincial Government Normal School, founded in 1905. This teacher training school laid the groundwork for the university's enduring dedication to education. Throughout the first half of the 20th century, the school underwent several name changes, culminating in "Shanxi Provincial Taiyuan First Normal School" in 1953. A significant turning point came in 1958 with the establishment of Taiyuan Teachers College. This college emerged from the merger of Shanxi Provincial Taiyuan First Normal School, Taiyuan Advanced Training School, and Taiyuan No. 2 Normal School. Meanwhile, another key player, the Shanxi Provincial Institute of Education, was founded in 1929.

The final chapter in the university's pre-merger history unfolded in 1988. Shanxi University Teachers College was established as an undergraduate department within Shanxi University. This department occupied the former site of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Naval Electronic Engineering College. The year 2000 marked a defining moment for the university. Through a strategic merger, Taiyuan Teachers College, Shanxi University Teachers College, and the Shanxi Institute of Education joined forces to create the current institution. This consolidation brought together a wealth of experience and resources, solidifying the university's position as a leading educational center in Shanxi province.
