Southwest University of Political Science and Law is a well-established university in China focused on law and political science.

The roots of this esteemed university stretch back to 1950, when it was established as the Department of Political Science and Law at Southwest University of People's Revolution. This early chapter, with a founding figure like Marshal Liu Bocheng, a revered military leader, set the stage for the university's focus on legal and political education.

A pivotal moment arrived in 1953, when the institution underwent a significant transformation. Through a merger with several law and political science departments from other universities in the region, including Chongqing University and Sichuan University, a new entity emerged. Additionally, 1995 saw the university become the first pilot institution authorized to offer professional Juris Master's Degrees by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. This pioneering role in legal education cemented its reputation as a forward-thinking institution.
