Lanzhou City University

Lanzhou City University is a relatively young university, founded in 2006 with approval from China's Ministry of Education.

One predecessor was a teacher's college, established in 1958. This institution played a crucial role in developing the educational landscape of the region by providing qualified educators for future generations. The other predecessor, with a rich history dating back to the 1940s, focused on vocational training in the oil industry. Founded by Rewi Alley, a New Zealand advocate for social development in China, this school equipped students with valuable skills for this vital sector. In 2006, these two institutions with their unique strengths and legacies came together to form the current university. This merger allowed for a broader range of academic offerings, encompassing various disciplines beyond education and oil industry training. The newly formed university received official approval from the Ministry of Education, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
