JiShou University

Jishou University is a comprehensive university located in Jishou, Hunan Province, China.

Established in 1958, this university's roots trace back to a college named "Jishou College" formed by the local government. In its early years, it served as a center of education in the border region between Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing, and Guizhou provinces. A significant turning point came in 1978 when it merged with two established institutions: Hunan Medical University and the Xiangxi branch of Xiangtan University. This expansion solidified its position as a comprehensive university, offering a wider range of academic disciplines. Throughout its history, the university has undergone continuous development. In 2000, it further expanded by incorporating Jishou Health College, enriching its medical programs. Two years later, Wuling College merged into the university, adding new areas of study and expertise. These mergers not only broadened the curriculum but also fostered a diverse academic environment.
