Harbin Medical University

Harbin Medical University is a prestigious public university located in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, China.

In 1926, a vision for a stronger medical future in China materialized with the founding of a remarkable institution. Two forerunners in their own right, the Harbin Special Medical School and the China Red Army Health School, merged to create a powerhouse for medical education. The Harbin Special Medical School, established by the pioneering Dr. Wu Liande, had laid the groundwork for medical expertise in the region.  Meanwhile, the China Red Army Health School, born in 1931, embodied the spirit of the Red Army, emphasizing both exceptional medical skills and unwavering dedication. This union became a cornerstone, inheriting Dr. Wu Liande's legacy of patriotism and self-reliance, alongside the unwavering commitment to excellence ingrained in the Red Army.

Over the decades, the university flourished. Schools of dentistry, nursing, and public health were incorporated, solidifying its position as a comprehensive medical center. It became a pioneer in China, offering a rigorous seven-year medical program, a testament to its high standards. Collaboration became a cornerstone. Prestigious institutions like Nankai University and Harbin Institute of Technology partnered for the seven-year program (until 2012). International collaborations blossomed, fostering a global perspective in healthcare education.
