Hainan Normal University

Hainan Normal University is a provincial public university in Haikou, Hainan, China.

This prestigious university boasts a rich history dating back to 1949, making it the oldest institution of higher learning in its province. Its establishment marked a pivotal moment, signifying the region's commitment to education. The university's roots can be traced even further back to the Qiongtai Academy, established in the 18th century, which laid the groundwork for its future prominence. In 1949, it emerged as the National Hainan Teachers College, reflecting its initial focus on teacher education, a crucial role in shaping young minds. In 1952, a nationwide restructuring of higher education led to a name change – Hainan Normal Junior College. Throughout the following decades, the university underwent a period of expansion and consolidation. 

In 1962, it absorbed several other institutions, solidifying its position as the leading normal junior college in the province. A significant milestone came in 1986 with the restoration of the name Hainan Teachers College, acknowledging its enduring legacy in teacher training. As the educational landscape continued to evolve, in 1999, the university merged with the Hainan Institute of Education, broadening its academic scope. This merger paved the way for its ultimate transformation in 2007, when it received official recognition as Hainan Normal University. This final name change marked the culmination of a long journey, solidifying its status as a comprehensive university with a distinguished history in teacher education.
