University of Concepción

he University of Concepción is a traditional private Chilean university. It is one of the most prestigious universities in Chile and is considered one of the most important academic institutions in South America.

The history of the University of Concepción (UdeC) dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when many scholars from Concepción started to advocate for the construction of a university in the south of Chile. In 1911, a Committee Pro-University was formed to promote this initiative. The committee raised funds and lobbied the government for support.

On May 14, 1919, the University of Concepción was officially founded. It was the third university to be established in Chile, and the first one outside of the capital city of Santiago. The university's founding was a major milestone for the city of Concepción and the surrounding region.

The university initially offered programs in law, engineering, and pharmacy. Over the years, it has expanded its offerings to include a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in all major academic disciplines.

In 1955, the university opened a campus in the city of Chillán. In 1962, it opened a campus in the city of Los Ángeles.
