University of Norbert Zongo

The Université Norbert Zongo (UNZ) is a public university located in Koudougou, Burkina Faso.

The Université Norbert Zongo (UNZ) was founded in 2005, making it one of the youngest public universities in Burkina Faso. However, its roots can be traced back to the early 1990s, when the government of Burkina Faso began to plan for a new university in the city of Koudougou.

In 1992, the government established the Centre Universitaire Régional de Koudougou (CURK), which offered a limited number of courses in law, economics, and education. The CURK was intended to be a temporary institution, pending the construction of a new, full-fledged university.

In 1998, the government decided to name the new university after Norbert Zongo, an investigative journalist who had been assassinated a few months earlier. Zongo was known for his courage and integrity in exposing corruption and human rights abuses.

Construction on the new university began in 2002, and the first students were admitted in 2005. UNZ initially offered courses in three faculties: Arts and Letters, Economics and Management, and Higher Education. The university has since expanded to offer courses in a wider range of disciplines, including Science and Technology.

UNZ has also become a leading center for research in Burkina Faso. The university's researchers are involved in a wide range of projects, including agriculture and food security, climate change and adaptation, education and development, health and well-being, and governance and peacebuilding.
