Fluminense Federal University

Fluminense Federal University (UFF) is a public higher education institution located mainly in Niterói and in other cities of Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil.

Fluminense Federal University (UFF) was founded on December 18, 1960, through the merger of five federal institutions, three state institutions, and two private colleges in the city of Niterói, Brazil. The university was initially named Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UFERJ), but its current name was adopted on November 5, 1965.

UFF's creation was the result of a growing movement in Brazil to expand access to higher education and to decentralize the country's university system. At the time of its founding, UFF was one of only a few federal universities in Brazil outside of the state capitals.
