Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University

The Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University (Universidad Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno, UAGRM) is a public university in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

The history of Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University (UAGRM) dates back to 1879, when it was founded by supreme decree of December 15. The first governor was Bishop Juan José Valdivia, and the school initially offered Medicine, Technology, and Law.

In the early years, the university struggled to establish itself. It was poorly funded and had a small student body. However, over time, the university grew and developed its academic programs. In 1931, the university was granted autonomy by the Bolivian government. This meant that the university was free to set its own curriculum and appoint its own faculty.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the UAGRM experienced a period of rapid growth. The student body increased significantly, and new academic programs were added. The university also began to conduct research in a variety of fields.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the UAGRM played a leading role in the struggle for democracy in Bolivia. The university was a center for student activism and opposition to the military dictatorship.

Since the restoration of democracy in Bolivia in 1982, the UAGRM has continued to grow and develop. It is now one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the country.

The UAGRM has played a major role in the development of the department of Santa Cruz. It is a major center for education, research, and innovation. The university's graduates have gone on to become leaders in all sectors of Bolivian society.
