The Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) is the national university of Bhutan.
The history of the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) dates back to the early 20th century, when the first tertiary education institutions in Bhutan were established. These institutions were primarily focused on vocational training and teacher education.
In the 1970s, the Bhutanese government began to invest more heavily in tertiary education. This led to the establishment of several new colleges, including Sherubtse College in 1976 and Gedu College in 1983. These colleges offered a wider range of programs, including undergraduate degrees in the arts and sciences.
In the early 1990s, the Bhutanese government began to develop a plan for a national university. The goal was to create a more centralized and coordinated system of tertiary education in Bhutan. In 2003, the Royal University of Bhutan was established by a royal decree.
RUB was formed by amalgamating the seven existing colleges in Bhutan, as well as the National Institute of Education. The university was also given the responsibility of overseeing the development of new tertiary education institutions in the country. Since its establishment, RUB has grown rapidly. The university now has nine constituent colleges and two affiliated colleges.
RUB plays an important role in the development of Bhutan. The university's graduates are in high demand in the workforce and contribute to the country's economic and social development. RUB also conducts research on important issues facing Bhutan, such as climate change, sustainable development, and education.
