University of Parakou

University of Parakou is a public university located in Parakou, Benin. It is the second largest university in the country, after the University of Abomey-Calavi.

The University of Parakou (UP) was founded in 2001 by Decree No. 2001-365 of September 18, 2001 of the Beninese government. This decree was supplemented by Order No. 2001-091/MESRS/DC/SG/SP of October 19, 2001, which defined its organization and operation. These two administrative acts made UP a public institution of higher education, endowed with legal personality and administrative and financial autonomy. UP was created in response to the need for a second public university in Benin, to help meet the growing demand for higher education in the country. The university was also intended to play a role in the development of the northern region of Benin, which is less developed than the southern region.

UP has faced a number of challenges since its founding, including limited funding, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of qualified faculty members. However, the university has made significant progress in overcoming these challenges, and is now one of the leading universities in Benin. The University of Parakou is a young but dynamic university with a bright future. The university is committed to providing its students with a high-quality education and to playing a leading role in the development of Benin.
