Hasselt University

Hasselt University, also known as Universiteit Hasselt (UHasselt), is a Belgian university located in the city of Hasselt, in the Limburg province of Flanders.

Hasselt University boasts a vibrant history rooted in the passionate demand for higher education in the Limburg region. In 1969, over 11,000 citizens, politicians, and entrepreneurs took to the streets, voicing their dream of a local university. Their unwavering desire materialized in 1971 with the birth of the Limburg Universitair Centrum (LUC).

LUC initially focused on undergraduate programs, fostering knowledge with its Faculties of Medicine-Dentistry and Sciences. By 1991, its wings expanded, welcoming the Limburg Business School (EHL) as its third faculty, later renamed Faculty of Applied Economics and now known as Business Economics. Throughout the '90s and early 2000s, UHasselt continued to flourish, establishing research centers, launching new faculties like Law and Dietetics, and acquiring a second campus in Diepenbeek.

In 2005, LUC underwent a momentous transformation, shedding its initial acronym and proudly embracing its identity as Hasselt University. This marked a new chapter, emphasizing the university's deep connection to the city and its commitment to regional progress.
