University of Chittagong

The University of Chittagong is a public research university located in Hathazari, Chittagong, Bangladesh. It was established in 1966 and is one of the oldest and largest universities in the country.

The history of CU dates back to the early 1960s, when a movement was launched to establish a university in Chittagong. The movement was supported by prominent intellectuals, educationists, and social workers, including Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah and Professor Ahmad Hossain. In 1965, the Chittagong University Ordinance was promulgated, and the university officially came into existence on 18 November 1966.

CU started its academic activities with only 200 students in four departments: Bangla, English, History, and Economics. However, the university quickly expanded, and new faculties and departments were added over the years. Today, CU is one of the leading universities in Bangladesh and is known for its academic excellence and research output.
