Sir Salimullah Medical College

Sir Salimullah Medical College (SSMC), commonly known as Mitford, is a public medical college in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Founded in 1875 as Dhaka Medical School, it is the oldest and second largest medical school in the country. The college has a long and rich history, dating back to the British colonial era. The Mitford Hospital, which is attached to the college, was named after Robert Mitford, a British official who funded its construction. The hospital began its operation in 1858 with only 32 beds and has since grown to become a 600-bed tertiary care facility.

Dhaka Medical School was officially upgraded to a medical college in 1962 and was renamed Sir Salimullah Medical College in honor of Nawab Sir Salimullah, a prominent Bengali Muslim leader.
