Rajshahi Medical University

Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) is a public medical university located in Rajshahi, Bangladesh.

Rajshahi Medical University's story begins in 1949, not as a university, but as a seed of aspiration. Renowned figures from Rajshahi society and political leaders envisioned a medical school in their city. Under the State Medical Faculty of Dhaka, an LMF (Licentiate of Medical Faculty) diploma course was launched, welcoming its first 80 students.

Five years later, in 1954, the dream took a significant leap. The then Pakistan government recognized the burgeoning medical needs of the region and converted the diploma course into a full-fledged government medical college. This marked a pioneering moment, making Rajshahi Medical College the first of its kind in northern Bangladesh.

However, it wasn't until 2017 that the institution truly blossomed into Rajshahi Medical University. Recognizing the crucial role of medical education in the north, the university was established to oversee and supervise all government and private medical, dental, and nursing colleges in the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions. This pivotal step aimed to streamline and elevate the level of medical education and healthcare services in the region.

Today, Rajshahi Medical University, through its flagship Rajshahi Medical College, continues to provide MBBS degrees in medicine and surgery, nurturing generations of skilled medical professionals who serve the northern communities and beyond. Its journey, rooted in local initiative and nurtured by national vision, exemplifies the university's dedication to expanding access to quality medical education and building a healthier future for northern Bangladesh.
