Jagannath University (JnU) is a highly regarded public university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The story of Jagannath University stretches back to 1858, nestled within the broader history of Bangladesh and Bengal. Its earliest chapter began as a humble "Brahma School", inspired by Raja Ram Mohan Roy's Brahmo Samaj movement. In 1872, it took on the name of Jagannath School, honoring the Zamindar Kishorilal Chowdhury's father. Throughout the 19th century, it steadily grew, offering courses in Law and elevating to a second-grade college in 1884.
The 20th century saw Jagannath evolve further. It witnessed the turbulent years of colonial rule and partition, eventually coming under the administration of the Pakistani government in 1968. Yet, its academic spirit remained undimmed, expanding its curriculum and opening graduate and post-graduate programs in 1975.
Finally, in 2005, Jagannath reached its full potential, blossoming into a full-fledged public university. Today, it stands proudly as a premier educational institution in Bangladesh, offering diverse academic programs, fostering a vibrant student community, and contributing significantly to the nation's intellectual landscape. With its rich history and unwavering commitment to knowledge, Jagannath University continues to illuminate the path towards a brighter future.
