Dhaka Medical College

Dhaka Medical College (DMC) is a public medical college and hospital located in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh.

The seeds of Dhaka Medical College were sown in 1939, when the University of Dhaka proposed its establishment to the British government. However, the onset of World War II put these plans on hold. It wasn't until 1945, after the war had ended, that a committee was formed to make this dream a reality.

On July 10, 1946, Dhaka Medical College officially opened its doors, starting a new chapter in the country's medical education. Despite not having its own building at the time, the college began functioning within the present hospital building, which was constructed before the partition of Bengal in 1905. This grand structure had previously served as the secretariat for the newly formed provinces of East Bengal and Assam, and in 1921, it became part of the University of Dhaka. During World War II, it even housed an American armed forces hospital.

Dhaka Medical College has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in shaping Bangladesh's healthcare landscape. Over the years, it has produced more than 50,000 doctors who have served the nation with dedication and skill. The college is widely renowned for its excellent academic programs, while the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) attached to it is the largest and busiest hospital in Bangladesh, providing high-quality tertiary care to patients from all corners of the country.
