The story of Comilla University begins in 2001, when the Bangladeshi government's Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) initiated a project to establish twelve science and technology universities across the country. Then-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia officially inaugurated Comilla University, marking a momentous occasion for the region's educational landscape.
Initially, the university operated from temporary facilities borrowed from the Comilla Cantonment Public School and College.
