Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University
Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) is a public university in Bangladesh, and the only specialized veterinary university in the country.
In 1995, responding to the growing need for trained professionals in animal care and food production, the Bangladeshi government established two veterinary colleges, one in Sylhet and the other in Chittagong. This Chittagong college, initially named the Chittagong Government Veterinary College (CGVC), began with 50 eager students enrolled in its first academic session under the University of Chittagong.
Recognizing the college's expanding curriculum and vital role in Chittagong's developing agricultural sector, the University of Chittagong transformed CGVC into a separate faculty. But the vision didn't stop there. Driven by a desire to create a dedicated center for veterinary and animal sciences education and research, the Bangladeshi government, on August 7, 2006, officially established the Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU).
Since its inception, CVASU has blossomed into a leading institution, offering not only the five-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree but also various undergraduate and postgraduate programs in other disciplines like food science and fisheries. Its research endeavors tackle crucial issues like animal health, food safety, and sustainable agriculture, contributing significantly to the lives of both animals and people in Bangladesh.
