Britannia University

Britannia University (BU) is a private university established in 2010 under the 2010 Private University Act.

Founded in 2010 with the rise in demand for specialized education in Bangladesh, Britannia University set out to offer quality education under the 2010 Private University Act. Committed to providing a learning environment free from harmful influences, the university emphasized a smoke-free, drug-free, and politically neutral campus. Initially, Britannia University established five core programs: Business Administration, Computer Science and Engineering, English, Law, and Economics.

The early years saw steady growth in enrollment, as the university focused on providing affordable and accessible education. However, in 2017, a critical point in its history emerged. The absence of a Vice Chancellor appointed by the Chancellor, along with the lack of a pro-vice chancellor and treasurer, raised concerns about governance within the university. This issue culminated in April 2022 with the University Grants Commission directing Britannia University to stop enrolling new students.

Despite the current suspension of student enrollment, Britannia University's history remains a testament to its commitment to offering quality education within Bangladesh. Its legacy echoes in the alumni it nurtured and the impact it had on the educational landscape of the region. Whether it overcomes the current challenges and resumes operations remains to be seen, but Britannia University's story is far from over.
