Begum Rokeya University

Begum Rokeya University (BRUR) is a public research university located in Rangpur, Bangladesh.

Begum Rokeya University's story began in 2007, when the need for a public university within Rangpur Division arose. With the blessings of the Caretaker Government, the decision to establish it was made in February 2008. The university officially opened its doors later that year, named after the pioneering feminist Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, a beacon of female education and empowerment in Bangladesh.

Beyond academics, BRUR's campus, nestled 10 kilometers from Rangpur city, has flourished. Spanning 75 acres, it now houses four academic buildings, two hostels, a library, a computer center, a stadium, and a community center, providing a vibrant and comprehensive learning environment. Research has become a cornerstone of BRUR's identity. With 11 research centers and 5 dedicated institutes, the university fosters a thriving culture of academic inquiry. Researchers here have garnered recognition through numerous published papers and prestigious national awards.
