University of Bahrain is a public university in Bahrain. It is the largest institution of higher education in Bahrain, with three campuses (Sakhir, Isa Town, and Salmaniya).
The history of the University of Bahrain (UOB) can be traced back to 1968, when the Gulf Polytechnic was established. The Gulf Polytechnic was a technical college that offered training in a variety of fields, including engineering, science, and business.
In 1979, the University College of Arts, Science and Education (UCASE) was established. UCASE was a four-year college that offered degrees in a variety of humanities and social science disciplines.
In 1986, the Gulf Polytechnic and UCASE were merged to form the University of Bahrain. The new university was established by Amiri Decree No. 12 /1986.
UOB has grown rapidly since its founding. In 1986, the university had approximately 2,000 students. UOB is also a major research university. The university has a number of research centers and institutes that conduct research in a variety of fields. UOB's research output has increased significantly in recent years.
