Azerbaijan Medical University

Azerbaijan Medical University named after Nariman Narimanov is the formal name of the public medical school located in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The roots of Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU) can be traced back to 1919, when it emerged as the Medical Faculty of Baku State University. In 1930, it blossomed into an independent institution, the Azerbaijan Medical Institute, offering two distinct faculties: Medical Preventive and Sanitary-Hygienic, which included a focus on tropical diseases. 

During World War II, AMU played a vital role in training over 2,082 doctors to meet the urgent medical needs of the time. In recognition of its contributions, the institute was named after Nariman Narimanov, a prominent doctor and writer, in 1957.

The university's growth continued, and in 1991, it was officially granted university status, reflecting its expanding academic excellence and stature. To further enhance its clinical education capabilities, AMU opened its Training and Surgical Clinic in 2013.

Today, AMU stands as Azerbaijan's premier medical university, welcoming a diverse student body from over 50 countries and providing a wide spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various medical fields. Its legacy is evident in the countless graduates who have gone on to become successful medical professionals, researchers, and educators around the world. AMU's international recognition by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other medical bodies further solidifies its reputation for providing high-quality medical education.
