The Medical University of Graz (MUG) is a public medical university in Graz, Austria.
The history of the Medical University of Graz (MUG) can be traced back to the founding of the University of Graz in 1585. Medical education was first offered at the university in 1782 as part of a medical-surgical curriculum. In 1863, the Medical Faculty of the University of Graz was officially established by Emperor Franz Joseph I.
The Medical Faculty of the University of Graz quickly became one of the leading medical schools in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the faculty was home to a number of world-renowned scientists and physicians, including Karl Rokitansky, the father of modern pathology, and Otto Marburg, a pioneer in the field of neurology.
After the Second World War, the Medical Faculty of the University of Graz continued to grow and develop. In the 1960s and 1970s, the faculty expanded its teaching and research facilities, and began to offer new programs in dentistry, nursing science, and other related fields.
In 2004, the Medical Faculty of the University of Graz was separated from the university and became an independent university, the Medical University of Graz. Since its founding, MUG has continued to expand its academic and research programs, and has established itself as one of the leading medical universities in Austria and Central Europe.
MUG is located in the heart of Graz, Austria's second-largest city. The university campus is home to a variety of state-of-the-art facilities, including a hospital, a dental clinic, and a research center. MUG also has a strong commitment to internationalization, and partners with universities around the world to offer student exchange programs and research collaborations.
