Innsbruck Medical University

The Medical University of Innsbruck (MUI) is a public university in Innsbruck, Austria.

The history of the Medical University of Innsbruck (MUI) dates back to the founding of the first hospital in the nearby silver-mining city of Schwaz in 1307. A medical faculty was included in the initial university, established in 1669 by emperor Leopold I.

In the early years, the medical faculty at MUI was relatively small, with only a few professors and students. However, the faculty grew rapidly in the 18th and 19th centuries, and by the early 20th century, it was one of the leading medical schools in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

After the Second World War, MUI continued to grow and develop. In 1969, the university moved to its current campus on the outskirts of Innsbruck. The new campus included a state-of-the-art teaching hospital, which was one of the first in Austria to be equipped with computers and other modern technology.

In 2004, MUI became an independent university, separate from the University of Innsbruck. This change allowed MUI to focus on its core mission of providing medical education and conducting medical research.

Today, MUI is one of the leading medical universities in Austria. MUI is also a major center for patient care. The university's teaching hospital is one of the largest and most comprehensive hospitals in Austria. It provides a wide range of medical services to patients from all over the country.
