The Argentine Catholic University (UCA) is a private university in Argentina with campuses in Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Rosario, Paraná, Mendoza, and Pergamino.
The history of the Argentine Catholic University (UCA) can be traced back to the early 20th century, when the Argentine episcopate founded the Catholic University of Buenos Aires in 1910. However, this institution was closed in 1922 due to political opposition from the government.
In 1955, a new decree was passed granting private universities the authority to deliver academic qualifications. This paved the way for the reestablishment of the Catholic University of Argentina, which was formally founded on March 7, 1958.
The UCA quickly grew and expanded its offerings. In 1962, it opened its first regional campus in Santa Fe. Since then, the university has opened additional campuses in Rosario, Paraná, Mendoza, and Pergamino.
The UCA has played a significant role in Argentine society. During the military dictatorship of the 1970s and 1980s, the university was a vocal critic of human rights abuses. The UCA also played a key role in the transition to democracy in Argentina.
Today, the UCA is one of the most prestigious universities in Argentina. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of disciplines. The UCA is also a leading center for research and innovation.
Based on the QS World University Rankings of 2024, Argentine Catholic University is positioned as the #514 top university in the world, which makes it the #2 top university in Argentina.
