Catholic University of Angola is a Catholic institution in Angola's capital of Luanda.
The history of the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN) dates back to the early 1990s, when the Angolan Catholic Church began to explore the possibility of establishing its own university. In 1992, the government of Angola granted the Catholic Church permission to establish a private university.
The Catholic Church's motivation for establishing a university was to provide Angolan youth with a high-quality education that was grounded in the Catholic faith and the values of social justice and service. The Church also wanted to create an institution that would help to promote peace and reconciliation in Angola, which was still recovering from a long and devastating civil war.
UCAN officially opened its doors to students in 1999. The university began with two faculties: Law and Economics.
UCAN has played an important role in the development of Angola. The university's graduates have gone on to become leaders in government, business, and civil society. UCAN has also been a major center for research and scholarship. The university's faculty members have actively involved in research projects on a wide range of topics, including education, health, poverty, and development. UCAN's research findings have helped to inform policy and practice in Angola and beyond.
UCAN is a thriving and dynamic university that is committed to making a positive impact on Angola and the world. The university is a testament to the Catholic Church's commitment to education and its desire to help build a better future for Angola.
