Mentouri University of Constantine

Mentouri University of Constantine, officially Université Frères Mentouri Constantine 1, is a public university in Constantine, Algeria.

The history of Mentouri University of Constantine dates back to 1886, when the French colonial government established the Institute of Legal Studies in Constantine. After Algeria gained independence from France in 1962, the Institute of Legal Studies was expanded and renamed the University of Constantine.

In 1969, the university's main campus was designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and completed in 1972. The campus is known for its modernist architecture and its unique location on a hilltop overlooking the city of Constantine.

The university was renamed Mentouri University of Constantine in 2012, in honor of the Mentouri brothers, two Algerian nationalists who were killed during the Algerian War of Independence.
