Higher National Veterinary School

Higher National Veterinary School functions as Algeria's leading public institution that trains students in veterinary medicine and animal health studies. The school operates from its modern campus facility which supports advanced research activities and clinical training programs in the El Alia area of Oued Smar located east of Algiers. The school maintains its status as a "Grande École" because of its strict admission requirements which establish it as the main institution for building essential national skills in animal welfare and food safety and public health fields. The campus offers research facilities that scientists can use to work together while its veterinary clinic provides public services to the neighboring community.

The school was established to provide essential veterinary services which became critical during the 1960s when horse disease outbreaks spread through the whole region. The institution opened its doors to students in 1970 after a presidential decree established it as an official educational institution on March 11, 1965. The organization became independent and established its current facilities in 2014 to support its expanding scientific activities throughout the country. The school has transformed from a small specialized center into a major university institution which develops its academic programs and research activities to match current international veterinary science standards.
